Whether it's a facial tissue to catch a sneeze or a toilet roll you get through every week without thinking, most conventional tissue products share the same problems. Bamboo facial tissue and bamboo toilet tissue are both made from 100% bamboo pulp, and are typically unbleached, plastic-free, and free from inks and synthetic dyes.

Recycled tissues are made from post-consumer waste paper: material that has already served its original purpose and would otherwise be sent to landfill. When produced without added fragrances, dyes, or chlorine bleach, they're gentle enough for everyday use.

Look out for FSC-certified products, which confirm that the bamboo or wood fibre has been sourced from responsibly managed forests. Used tissues are compostable at home, provided they're free from chemical additives, so nothing has to go to waste.

Bamboo Tissues for Sensitive Skin

Conventional tissue products often contain residual chlorine compounds from the bleaching process, along with synthetic fragrances and optical brighteners. For anyone with sensitive skin, those additives sit against your skin repeatedly throughout the day.

Eco-friendly tissues formulated without bleach, dyes or artificial scents are a more considered option. Softness comes from the fibre quality rather than chemical treatment, and 3-ply options offer a gentle, comfortable feel without compromise. Some facial tissues are also enriched with natural ingredients like aloe vera balsam, which soothes on contact and makes them particularly well-suited to hay fever season, winter colds, or anyone prone to skin sensitivity.

Sustainable toilet paper made from bamboo or recycled content is equally gentle and free from additives that often cause irritation in conventional brands.

The price of eco-conscious tissue products often holds up well when compared to mid-range conventional alternatives. Mega-roll toilet tissue, for example, means fewer rolls to replace and less packaging overall. The real difference shows in what you're not paying for: unnecessary plastic packaging, synthetic additives, and chemical processing.
